History

The Political Report
1980 — 1991
The Inside Elections story begins back in 1980, when Stuart Rothenberg was hired as an associate editor for The Political Report, a nonpartisan publication under the umbrella of the conservative Free Congress Foundation. Stu ascended to editor within six months and ran the publication for the next eight years. In 1988, he took over The Political Report and turned it into an independent company, but operated it under the same name for another few years.

The Rothenberg Political Report
1992 — 2014
In 1992, Stu renamed the newsletter The Rothenberg Political Report. It was the second entity to formalize and publish race ratings, and Stu became one of the most prolific and well-respected election handicappers and political speakers in the country along with his friend Charlie Cook. Stu was Editor & Publisher of the independent, nonpartisan publication for more than 25 years. Stu hired Nathan Gonzales as a political reporter & analyst in the spring of 2001 and they worked together for more than a dozen years before beginning the transition of the company in 2015.

Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales
2015 — Present
After two years as The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report, the company became Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales, with Nathan as the editor & publisher. Inside Elections continues to be one of the top nonpartisan political analysis brands in the country with ratings featured on CNN, Roll Call, Politics1 and elsewhere.
